Aryna Sabalenka, world’s No. 1  in women’s tennis division, has emerged victorious at the Miami Open, defeating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the final. The win marks Sabalenka’s eighth career WTA 1000th title and cements her position as one of the dominant forces in women’s tennis.

The match, played at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, March 29, 2025 was a highly anticipated encounter between two of the world’s top players. While Pegula, the No. 4 seed, put up a valiant effort, Sabalenka’s superior skill and experience ultimately told, as she pulled away to win in comprehensive fashion.

Despite a strong start from Pegula, who won three straight games in the first set to level the scores, Sabalenka’s class and composure proved too much for the American. The world No. 1 broke Pegula’s serve to take a 5-3 lead, only for Pegula to break back and level the scores at 5-5. However, Sabalenka’s greater experience and mental toughness ultimately paid off, as she broke Pegula’s serve once more to take the set 7-5.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Pegula breaking Sabalenka’s serve to take an early lead. However, Sabalenka’s response was emphatic, as she won four straight games to take a 4-1 lead. From there, the outcome was never in doubt, as Sabalenka cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second set.

With her win, Sabalenka becomes the 12th top-ranked player to win the Miami Open and extends her head-to-head record against Pegula to 7-2. The victory is also Sabalenka’s third consecutive win over Pegula in a final, following her triumphs in Cincinnati and the US Open last summer.
