The Planning Committee of the Asogli Teza (Yam Festival) Tennis Tournament has officially launched the 2022 Invitational Tennis Tournament at the Tennis Court in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital.
The tournament is an annual competitive tennis event aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the people of Asogli through tennis in Ho and its environs.
The Chairman of the Ho Tennis Club (HTC), Mr. Joseph Dzamesi, revealed that the annual Asogli Yam Festival Tennis Tournament is organised side-by-side with the celebration of the Asogli yam festival to promote the development of Tennis together with the rich culture of the people of Asogli.
“We organised this tournament to coincide with the Asogli celebration as a way of showcasing the rich culture of the people of Asogli, as we do that we bring teams from across the country to engage in a competitive social tennis tournament,” Mr. Dzamesi said.
“This tournament also allows us to promote the development of Tennis in the Ho area when young people come here to see the older people play tennis they get interested in it and hopefully attracted to tennis,” he added.
The Invitational Tournament is set to kickstart from September 2 to September 4, 2022.
This year, four(4) tennis clubs, namely Ho Tennis Club, Amy Officers Mess Tennis Club, Accra Lawn Tennis Club, and the Goldfield Tarkwa Tennis Club would participate in the competitive match for bragging rights and an enviable trophy.
However, TDC Tennis Club from Tema and Sole Lagoon Tennis Club from Prampram would compete as guest clubs.
A total of seven (7) matches would be played, this comprises 4 Male Doubles, One Female Double, One Mixed Doubles, and a Single (Male and Female) depending on the opponent.
The planning committee has also lined up a few activities during the program.
On Friday 2nd, September 2022, participating Clubs and Guests would arrive at a treat of a Bonfire night with Jama and Borborbor.
Saturday, September 3, 2022, would be the tournament day with a Party thereafter.
On Sunday 4th September 2022, there will be grudge matches and the presentation of Awards.
The Annual Asogli Teza Tennis Tournament, which started about 13 years ago, has been one of the most fun-packed and anticipated sporting events during the Asogli Yam Festival with the primary aim of promoting tennis as a sport in the Volta Regional Capital.
The Asogli Invitational Tennis Tournament’s Planning Committee is chaired by Mr. Anthony Agbozo Dogbey, with Samuel Agana as the organizer while Sedem Amegayibor, Adeline Yibor, Richard Delali Tetteh, and John Ngoah serve on the committee as members.
