Ghana’s Black Queens have arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of their friendly match against the Atlas Lionesses on Friday, February 21.

This encounter marks the first test for Kim Lars Björkegren, the newly appointed head coach of the Black Queens, as he aims to lead the team to success in this crucial match. The friendly is seen as an important stepping stone for the coach to evaluate the team’s readiness and adaptability under his guidance.

The Black Queens departed from Accra in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, to begin their training camp for the upcoming game.

Soon after his unveiling as head coach, Björkegren wasted no time in preparing for the challenge. He selected his squad, which includes only four players from the Ghana Women’s Premier League, showcasing his emphasis on quality and integration within the domestic football scene.

As of Monday, February 17, eighteen players are currently in camp, with the team set to hold their first training session ahead of the match.

Kim Lars Björkegren has made a positive impression since his appointment, quickly immersing himself in the local football ecosystem. Shortly after his unveiling, he attended a Women’s FA Cup match between Rootz Sistaz and Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the Senchi Methodist Astro Turf in Akosombo.

This move reflects his commitment to understanding the domestic scene and fostering connections within the football community. The coach’s proactive approach is aimed at building team cohesion and ensuring the Black Queens are well-prepared for the match.

The Black Queens are wasting no time in their preparations. Following their arrival in Casablanca, the team is expected to hold their first training session on February 17. Subsequent sessions will lead up to the match against Morocco. With 18 players in camp, the coaching staff has the flexibility to fine-tune strategies and assess player dynamics.

The friendly match is not only an opportunity for the Black Queens to test their tactics but also for Morocco, as the Atlas Lionesses use this game as part of their own preparations for upcoming international fixtures.
