Two years after the untimely passing of Ghanaian professional footballer Christian Atsu, his family and management team are set to launch the Christian Atsu Foundation, keeping his legacy alive through charitable efforts. The foundation aims to continue the good works that Atsu was known for during his life.
The initiative has been spearheaded by Nana Sechere, Atsu’s agent, who shares a deep connection with the late footballer. “The foundation is basically continuing with the good works that Christian started, we wanted to make sure he has his own entity that we can control and continue with his projects. The goal is not only to sustain Atsu’s charitable deeds but also to ensure his name lives on for the foreseeable future”; Sechere explained.
Those who knew Atsu well remember his passion for supporting projects that made a difference in people’s lives, beyond just his football career. Sechere reflects on the challenges of planning the foundation without Atsu’s direct involvement, but emphasizes that the team has leveraged their deep understanding of Atsu’s values to move forward. “It’s been extremely difficult, however, the good thing is that everybody around me specifically knows Christian very well”; he admitted.
The Christian Atsu Foundation has also garnered support from the clubs he represented during his career. Clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle United, Bournemouth, Everton, FC Porto, Vitesse, Malaga, Al-Raed, and Hatayspor have expressed their willingness to collaborate with the foundation.
