The FIFA Club World Cup trophy, a symbol of global football excellence, has embarked on a memorable tour across Africa ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 edition of the tournament. The glittering 10-kg gold-plated shield, designed to represent the pinnacle of club football, has already made stops in three African countries, namely South Africa, Egypt and Tunisia, captivating fans and generating widespread enthusiasm for the upcoming competition.
The trophy’s journey began in Pretoria, South Africa, from February 7 to 9 where it was welcomed with immense fanfare. Mamelodi Sundowns, the hosts for the South African leg, organized the tour’s first segment, which included a visit to their historic birthplace, Mamelodi High School. Students and staff alike erupted in celebration as they got their first glimpse of the iconic trophy.

Later, the trophy was displayed at Sammy Marks Square, where fans queued to pose for photographs with FIFA Legend Alessandro Nesta and Sundowns icons like Hlompho Kekana and Daniel Mudau. Tlhopane Motsepe, chairperson of Mamelodi Sundowns, emphasized the significance of the trophy’s visit during a press conference. “This trophy is a celebration of hope, pride, and excellence,” he said.
The trophy was unveiled at notable sites such as the Al Zaytuna Mosque and the ancient El Jem Amphitheatre. The trophy’s tour will conclude in Casablanca, Morocco, next April, where it will be hosted by Wydad Athletic Club.

This tour will see the trophy visit each city of the participating clubs, igniting excitement for the FIFA Club World Cup set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025. The trophy’s presence in Africa underscores the continent’s vibrant football culture and its role in the global sport.
