The Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by its President, Kurt Okraku-Mantey, has officially congratulated Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin on his re-election as Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament. This gesture was part of a courtesy visit aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between the GFA and the legislative body. The delegation’s visit also served as an opportunity to discuss potential collaborations for the advancement of football in Ghana.
During the meeting, the GFA presented a comprehensive document titled “State of Ghana Football,” which provides an in-depth analysis of the current status of football in Ghana. The document outlines the challenges facing the sport and proposes solutions to address these issues. This initiative reflects the GFA’s commitment to transparency and its desire to engage stakeholders in the development of football in the country.
In response to the GFA’s gesture, Speaker Bagbin expressed his appreciation and pledged his full support for football. He emphasized the importance of football as a unifying force and a promising venture that deserves investment. He stated, “Football is not just a sport; it is a unifying force that deserves our collective support.” He also encouraged the GFA to undertake regional tours to identify and nurture young talents, which he believes will be crucial for the future success of Ghanaian football.
The meeting was attended by key parliamentary figures, including Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, and Chairman of the Sports Committee Hon. Ernest Norgbey. Speaker Bagbin assured the delegation of Parliament’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance sports development in Ghana. He noted that football has the potential to bring significant economic and social benefits, and thus, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to ensure its growth and success.
