A dominant performance by Olympique Lyon saw them secure a 4-1 victory over Montpellier in their French Ligue 1 clash on Sunday, February 16, 2025, with Ghana international Ernest Nuamah playing a pivotal role in the match. The Black Stars winger started strong and made significant contributions, scoring and assisting goals as Lyon cruised to victory at the Stade de la Mosson-Mondial 98.
The game started with high intensity, and Lyon took the lead after just three minutes. Georgia international Georges Mikautadze, set up by Rayan Cherki’s clever pass, drilled a low shot past Montpellier’s goalkeeper to give Lyon an early 1-0 advantage. Despite this, Montpellier responded in the 38th minute when Tanguy Coulibaly equalised the score, ending the first half with the game tied at 1-1.
The second half proved to be a demolition exercise for Lyon, with Nuamah at the heart of it. Five minutes into the second half, the former FC Nordjaelland star fired a powerful shot from outside the box into the top corner, putting Lyon ahead for the first time since the opening goal. Just three minutes later, he unselfishly squared the ball for Corentin Tolisso, who slotted it into the net to make it 3-1. This swift double contribution highlighted Nuamah’s influence and creativity in attack.
Lyon’s fourth goal came in the 73rd minute when experienced forward Alexandre Lacazette, who had been introduced as a substitute, sealed the win with a clinical finish. The visitors, despite being away from home, displayed overwhelming dominance and secured a well-deserved three points.
Ernest Nuamah’s performance in the afternoon was a testament to his growing impact in Ligue 1. Having scored two goals in 16 matches this season, he also provided an assist, bringing his total contributions across all competitions to three goals and one assist. With this display, Nuamah continues to solidify his place as a rising star in French football.
