Former Secretary-General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Richard Akpokavie, has officially submitted his nomination form for a key executive position within the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). The submission took place at the GOC headquarters and is considered a crucial step in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. Mr. Akpokavie, who is highly respected in both legal and sports communities, brings decades of experience to his candidacy.

As a seasoned legal practitioner and former Secretary-General of GOC, he has established a reputation for ethical leadership and has been a driving force in advancing Ghanaian sports on the global stage. His entry into the race demonstrates his commitment and dedication towards building GOC, considering his background as a former Secretary-General.

“God willing, nominations will close on the 16th. Once the final list of contestants is announced, we’ll fully launch our campaign and outline our vision for the position,” Mr. Akpokavie noted.

He further threw light on his qualification, which he believes will be a great addition to the Ghana Olympic Committee. “One thing I bring to the table is experience. I’ve served as GOC Secretary-General for eight years, Vice President of Ghana Hockey, and I’ve worn many hats in sports as a player, coach, and administrator. I understand this space deeply,” He mentioned.

With the nomination deadline fast approaching, attention is focused on the final list of candidates. Mr. Akpokavie’s candidacy is expected to influence the election, which is scheduled for April 26, 2025, at the GOC elective Congress. His vision and leadership style will likely play a critical role in shaping the future of sports leadership in Ghana.
