The Ghana Police Service, under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has announced the appointment of senior officers as Regional Sports Security Officers. This initiative aims to ensure enhanced safety during Ghana Football Association (GFA) sanctioned competitions by coordinating and overseeing matchday security operations across all regions.
The introduction of the Regional Sports Security Officer role comes as part of a collaborative effort between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Football Association. This partnership is geared towards establishing a comprehensive approach to improve the overall safety and security at match venues throughout the country, thereby fostering a secure environment for fans and officials.

On March 7, 2025, all sixteen newly appointed Regional Sports Security Officers convened at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for a zonal workshop designed specifically for safety and security officers. This workshop serves as an essential platform for the officers to discuss strategies, share best practices, and prepare for the responsibilities that lie ahead in their respective regions.
The initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the perception of safety at sporting events in Ghana. With dedicated officers focused on the intricacies of matchday security, fans can look forward to attending events with greater peace of mind. This proactive measures are crucial in preventing potential disruptions and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
