The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has donated six pairs of streetlights and an undisclosed amount of money to support the National Sports Authority (NSA), managers of the Ho Sports Stadium.
This generous donation aims to address the pressing needs of the Ho Sports Stadium, which has been in a state of disrepair since its construction in 1957. Hon. Gunu made a surprise visit to the stadium on Saturday, March 1, 2025, where he met with staff from the Regional Football Association (RFA) and NSA.

The Minister assessed the stadium’s poor condition and gathered firsthand knowledge of the challenges faced by the facility.
The staff of the NSA mentioned several needs, which include basketball, volleyball, and handball courts; repairs to the broken fence; improved toilet facilities; additional seats; sheds; and a borehole.

Others are Mower, a slasher, and fixing of electricity poles for lights to aid illumination at night.
In response, Hon. Gunu donated six pairs of streetlights and an undisclosed amount of money for electrical works to support the upgrade of the facility.
Unfortunately, a heavy downpour caused a force majeure of a Division Two League match between Dynamo FC and Victory Stars FC, which the Hon. Minister was watching upon his return to enjoy the games after he made the donations.
However, this unexpected turn of events allowed the minister to witness the dire need to fix the stadium.
The Volta FA Chairman, Mr. Daniel Agbogah, who was present, welcomed Hon. Gunu.

The minister’s visit demonstrated his commitment to promoting sports development, as promised during the just-ended maiden Regional Minister’s Cup.
The minister’s visit and donation are a significant boost to the region’s sports development efforts. Hon. Gunu’s leadership and contribution to sports is expected to prioritise key areas such as sports infrastructure development and youth empowerment.
