Ghana is about to usher in a new era of digital connectivity as a result of the groundbreaking collaboration that will bring reasonably priced 5G mobile broadband services to the entire country.
This project, which was unveiled today by the Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization, will move Ghana closer to 2030 when it comes to being completely digital.
Working along with Ascend Digital Solutions, K-Net, Radisys, Nokia, and Tech Mahindra, the Ghanaian government has the backing of all Ghanaian mobile network carriers, beginning with AT and Telecel. Leading this initiative is a new shared infrastructure organisation called Next Generation Infrastructural Company (NGIC).
The landmark agreement was finalized on May 27, 2024, in Mumbai, India, and is the result of a journey that commenced more than two years prior. Within the following six months, NGIC will be in charge of introducing 5G services throughout Ghana, with intentions to expand into other African countries in the future.
Through this partnership, mobile broadband services will become more widely available, enabling all Ghanaians to have seamless, fast, and secure mobile experiences. Additionally, it is expected to stimulate economic growth—a 10% increase in broadband infrastructure might result in a 1.5% to 2% rise in GDP.
In order to promote a high-tech economy with digital entrepreneurs, NGIC will offer a strong basis for e-government applications, expanded inclusion initiatives, and a multitude of private sector prospects. This project aims to improve the quality of life for all Ghanaians, no matter where they live, by expanding access to digital services.
