A software has been developed to help address concerns over the dissemination of fake news in Ghana during election periods.

The App known as Election Watch will ensure fact based monitoring of events during the upcoming general election to make it credible.

The software was developed by Soft Masters in conjunction with the National Media Commission (NMC).

Chief Executive Officer of Soft Masters, Dr. Ben Adu said the App will ensure that all videos or photographs taken at polling centers and other places have precise date, time and location on them to authenticate their credibility for prompt action by relevant institutions.

He said it is part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility towards a peaceful and credible general election and will be made available to the public in due time.

Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission, George Sarpong, described the Software as an upgrade of its existing monitoring system.

He said the Election Watch App will provide the Electoral Commission with credible information on delays in supply of ballot materials at affected areas and other issues.

It will also help the security agencies act promptly on issues of violence.
