The Volta River Authority (VRA), says there is a need to identify emerging technologies to address energy scarcity in Africa.

Speaking at the 2022 Energy Africa Conference in Accra, the Adviser to the Chief Executive of VRA, Dr. Stella Agyenim-Boateng, called on governments and potential investors to invest in the energy sector to improve and make the industry efficient.

“I specifically will appeal to governments, business leaders, foreign investors, and the international community to make substantial investments in the sector and commit to making the energy sector effective and efficient since power is the heartbeat of every nation’s development,” she said.

Dr. Stella Agyenim-Boateng said access to energy in a sustainable manner must be improved to provide necessary infrastructure to reduce rural-urban migration.

This, she said, “will not only lead to the development of the African continent but also ensure quality educational outcomes, improved health, lower mortality rate, reduced unemployment, and a potential decrease in rural-urban migration.”

The maiden edition of the 2022 Africa Energy Conference focused on highlighting the infrastructure gap, financing options, and energy transition opportunities in the African energy sector.

The conference was under the theme, “Africa’s energy future: achieving an all-round competitiveness and sustainability to support the continent’s development ambitions”.
