Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is set to officially begin operations in Ghana by the end of August 2024.

This development follows the completion of all administrative and licensing requirements by the National Communications Authority (NCA), paving the way for Starlink to offer its high-speed internet services across the country.

Prior to receiving formal approval, some users in Ghana accessed Starlink through the black market by subscribing to its global roaming service, bypassing local restrictions.

In a statement issued today, the NCA confirmed that the service will be operated by Space X Starlink GH LTD, a subsidiary of Musk’s SpaceX.

Starlink’s service utilizes a network of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which provide significantly faster internet speeds compared to traditional satellite systems. This positions Starlink as a formidable competitor in the global internet landscape.

As of April 2024, Starlink’s network comprised approximately 5,800 LEO satellites, capable of delivering download speeds exceeding 100 Mbps in some regions.
