Facebook has confirmed that Hackers were able to remotely install surveillance software on phones and other devices using a major vulnerability in messaging app, Whatsapp.
The attack was first discovered earlier this month.
Facebook said the attack targeted a “selected number” of users, including journalists and human rights lawyers and was orchestrated by “an advanced cyber actor”. A fix was rolled out on Friday.
According to a report, the attack was developed by Israeli security firm NSO Group. WhatsApp has urged all of its one point five billion users to update their apps as an added precaution.
