The Minority in Parliament has accused government of using crude and desperate means to pass the controversial E-levy Bill. Addressing the media in Accra, the Minority Leader Haruana Iddrisu says the legal actions being taken against the NDC MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, is an attempt to reduce the Minority’s number in the House to tilt the balance in favour of the NPP so as to pass the Bill.

There is an injunction application against Mr. Quayson seeking to restrain him from holding himself as an MP. He has also been slapped with four criminal charges including deceit of a public officer.

On the matter of deceit of public of officer, Mr. Iddrisu said the issues in question came up prior to the election and the Electoral Commission cleared Mr. Quayson to contest. Mr. Quayson is said to have failed to disclose that he held a dual citizenship at the time of filing his nominations to contest.

Mr. Iddrisu maintained that the NDC remained resolute in its opposition to the Bill and will not be cowed or intimidated.
