Beleaguered Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo has stated how she had to protect a female MP who had to be away from Parliamentary duties for close to two years due to family issues.
In a Facebook post to congratulate the newly-elected executives of the NPP, Madam Adwoa Safo noted that the theme for the NPP’s just ended Conference,” Holding Together, Working Together” resonates with her current circumstances and brings back memories of her time as Deputy Majority Leader in the 7th Parliament, where as Leader of the Women’s Caucus, together with the Leadership of the Majority, did their best to protect a colleague female Member of Parliament who had to be away in London for close to two years to take care of family issues.
According to her, this was just one example of how they protected one of their own as leaders in the 7th Parliament.
She said she had had to question why she had to be treated differently by not enjoying the famous support of the NPP leadership both in Parliament and at the party level in her most difficult moments these past few months.
The Dome-Kwabenya MP has been away for nearly two years, raising concerns, with some alleging that she is deliberately sabotaging the party in Parliament, especially at a time when the government needs all 137 NPP MPs present due to the hung nature of the 8th Parliament.
The Gender Minister together with her colleague NPP MPs Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central; and Henry Quartey, Ayawase Central MP, were dragged before the Privilege’s Committee for absenting themselves for more than 15 sitting days without permission.
Madam Adwoa Safo said the theme perfectly embodies what the NPP must do, and stand for, as members of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo Tradition, adding there is the need for the party to stay united.
She concluded the post by reiterating that regardless of the political hounding and vendetta by certain elements within the party and Parliament against her, she has never wavered in her commitment to the ideals and creed of the New Patriotic Party and the Government of President Akufo-Addo.
