The Accra High Court has directed the Registrar of the Court to ensure there is a regular Chinese interpreter for the trial of Chinese woman Aisha Huang accused of engaging in illegal mining.
The regular interpreter is said to have traveled out of the country.
The Judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo said a new interpreter has been engaged but was not present in Court. The Court also directed the Attorney General to ensure that lawyer for Aisha Huang, Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey is served with the second batch of witness statements and other processes four clear days before the next hearing.
At the last hearing, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame informed the Court that the State would be calling eight witnesses. He also said the State has already filed four witness statements and eighteen other documents and is ready to proceed with the trial.
However, Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah told the Court on Monday, October 24, 2022, that the second batch of documents are ready at the registry to be filed.
Captain Effah-Dartey who was not happy with the submission contended that the Court directed the Attorney-General to get all processes ready before today, and the failure is an indication that the state is not ready to prosecute the case.
His attempt to repeat his bail application for Aisha Huang was rejected by the Court.
The case has been adjourned to November 2 for Case management conference and pre-trial hearing.
