A Lawyer, Elorm Ama Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor, and eight other protestors have been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

They are part of more than forty demonstrators arrested during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest organised by Democracy Hub over the weekend.

The three-day protest was held at the 37 Roundabout in Accra over concerns of illegal small-scale mining, popularly referred to as galamsey and economic mismanagement.

The accused persons were put in different courts. Ama Governor and her accomplices face five charges, comprising conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to all five counts and have been remanded into Police custody to reappear on October 8, 2024.
