The Annual Suhum Kenkey Party Festival which brought together both resident and non-resident of Suhum was observed to mark the Easter Sunday.
The programme which is the seventh edition is aimed at raising funds for the social development within the Suhum municipality.
The Communications Officer for the Suhum Kenkey Party, Alex Martinson in an interview with GBC NEWS noted that committee members before the programme identify a social problem within the Suhum municipality that needs urgent attention and raise funds in helping to solve that problem.
This according to him, helps in complementing government efforts in addressing social issues within the municipality since the central government cannot solve every problem for the citizenry.
Mr. Martinson thus revealed that proceeds from this year’s Kenkey party will be used to purchase textbooks and other stationery for class one pupils who will be starting the 2023/2024 academic year in September.
According to him, the kenkey party festival was instituted after a Suhum indigene lost his life in a gory accident after he visited Kwahu for the Easter Celebration. Thus, in order to prevent a reoccurrence of this incidence the committee members decided to bring on board the Suhum Kenkey Party Festival.
Mr. Martison mentioned that Kenkey was chosen since it is one of the delicacies that most residents within the Suhum Township could resonate with from all walk of lives.
The Akyempimhene of Suhum, Nana Adu Darko commended the organizers for this initiative which does not only help in developing the Suhum municipality but also unites the indigenes both home and abroad.
He therefore called on everyone to come on board to help sustain the Suhum Kenkey Party.
