Deputy Secretary-General of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), Mr. Andrews Addoquaye Tagoe, has dedicated his May Day award to the more than 4,500 children he has helped rescue from Child and Forced Labour.
He said the award is a victory in promoting labour and decent work for Agricultural Workers in Ghana and more especially in addressing child/forced labour.
Mr. Addoquaye Tagoe was honoured during this year’s May Day parade held on May 1, 2023 in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
The award comes after 26 years of dedicated service to GAWU and the Trade Union Movement in Ghana and other parts of Africa.
Speaking to GBCGHANAONLINE Mr. Tagoe, said the recognition is reassuring that the battle against child and forced labour can be won with concerted efforts. He said the award is a motivation for him to continuously serve GAWU and the country more.
Under the instrumentality of Mr. Tagoe, Ghana has created the ’Torkor Model’ – A Concept of Child Labour Free Zones In Africa.
