University of Cape Coast appoints Prof. Denis Aheto as Pro Vice Chancellor

Prof Denis Worlanyo Aheto, of the Coastal Ecology and Interdisciplinary Ocean Studies of the University of Cape Coast, has been appointed as the University’s new Pro Vice Chancellor with effect from January 1, next year.

He takes over from Prof Rosemond Boohene, whose three-year term of office ends on December 31 this year.

Prof Aheto, who started serving the University as a Teaching Assistant, was appointed as a lecturer in 2009 and rose to become a Senior Lecturer from 2013 to 2017. He became an Associate Professor and finally a full Professor from 2020 to date.

Apart from serving as a Team Leader in a number of programmes, seminars and projects at the University of Cape Coast and abroad, he was the Head of the Fisheries and Aquatic Department of UCC and a Deputy Director of the Sino-Ghana Joint Laboratory for Harbour Conservancy and Development.

Prof Aheto also served as the Director of the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) at the University of Cape Coast and also the Director of World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) Project.

He has won numerous awards at both local and international levels and is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear when he assumes office. Prof Aheto obtained his Bachelor of Science degree and Diploma in Education at the University of Cape Coast.

He has MSc degree in Rural Development Studies from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and both his master’s and Phd in Tropical Marine Ecology and in Environmental Science from Bremen in Germany.

His three-year term of office begins from January 2025 to December 2027.
