The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will not hesitate to sanction political parties, which fail to meet regulatory requirements, including being operational in two-thirds of the country.

The sanctions will include revoking the license and expunging the names of non-compliant political parties from the EC’s records.

The decision to sanction the Parties came after the Commission commenced a nation-wide inspection of all registered political party offices in line with the Political Parties Act.

The EC will by this inspection monitor and regulate the activities of the registered political parties in line with the political parties’ law to check whether they do exist at the addresses and locations provided to the EC.

The team of officers conducting the exercise would submit a report to the EC for study.

Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr Serebuor Quaicoe who pointed out in an interview also disclosed that the Commission has received fifteen new applications from political parties that are yet to be vetted.
