The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, has appealed for public support to arrest individuals and groups selling fake meters to households.
The Company is losing millions of Cedis in revenue due to the activities of fake meter syndicates.
A Revenue Protection Manager of ECG, Dr. Mark Owusu Ansah, said this during an exercise to remove and replace fake meters at Adeiso, in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region.
The exercise, which started five days ago, has so far seen the removal of over four hundred fake meters at Adeiso and replaced with genuine ones.
It formed part of the “No Fake Meter” campaign aimed at ridding the system of all fake meters and regularising such meter users to maximise revenue.
Dr. Ansah, urged persons who were using such meters to seek the help of ECG to replace them at no cost.
The ECG, in October last year, started an exercise in some communities in the Eastern Region to discourage the use of fake meters.
The communities are Daaman, Sakyikrom, Amoakrom, Duadekye, Ntoaso, Kofisah. Others are Newtown, Akwamu, Oparekrom, Nkyenen-kyene, Amanfrom and Adeiso.
The exercise was carried out by the Accra West ECG in collaboration with its Nsawam District Office.
