ABANTU For Development has created a platform to highlight the need to promote violent free elections.

Mary Tobbin Osei, a Gender Activist has pointed out the crucial role of gender-responsive media in promoting violent-free elections. According to her, the media has the power to shape public opinion and influence electoral outcomes.

To achieve this, Madam Osei advocates Media Sensitization and Training, which would enable journalists and media practitioners to recognise and challenge gender biases and stereotypes in their reporting.

Additionally, Mrs Osei stresses the importance of Promoting Women’s Participation in elections, both as Candidates and voters. By amplifying women’s voices and perspectives, the media can help to create a more inclusive and equitable electoral process.

She drew attention to the need to highlight the need for addressing violence against women in politics, which is a significant barrier to their participation.

By shedding light on these issues and promoting peaceful and respectful discourse, it is believed that ”the media can contribute to a more violent-free electoral environment”.

Overall, Mrs Osei underscored the critical role that gender-responsive media can play in promoting peaceful, inclusive, and equitable elections.
