Godwin Avenorgbo Best Reporter for Arts & Entertainment to feature on GJA Media Awards next year

The Ghana Journalists Association has expressed appreciation to the Melcom Group of Company for offering to sponsor a category on the annual GJA Media Awards in honor of the late Godwin Avenorgbo. 

The category which will be named the Godwin Avenorgbo Best Reporter for Arts & Entertainment, is expected to feature on the flagship GJA media awards next year.

GJA president Albert Dwumfuor who announced this during the 28th media awards which was held on September 28, 2024, said this was arrived at, after engagement with the management of the Melcom Group as well as family the late Godwin Avenorgbo.

He said it is to recognize the late Godwin Avenorgbo for his love for tradition and culture as well as immortalize his legacies within the Ghanaian media space. The late Godwin Avenorgbo, who was the Communications Director of the Melcom Group of Companies, until his demise also served as Chairman of the 75th anniversary Planning Committee of the GJA. He is credited to have contributed to the development of Ghana, Africa and Ghana in general especially in bringing others up with him.

The GJA president said the sponsorship by the Melcom Group is an honour bestowed on the late Godwin Avenorgbo popularly known as The Grandmaster or Big G. The late Godwin Avenorgbo, passed away on Monday 19th August 2024.  He was laid to rest on Saturday 14th September 2024.
