The facility is expected to be used as the event grounds as the region gears up on its preparations to host Ghana’s 66th Independence Day celebrations in the regional capital, Ho.
The announcement of the decision by President Akufo Addo to make the Volta regional capital of Ho host Ghana’s 66th Independence Day Celebration led to the resumption of construction works on the multi-purpose Youth Resource Center project near Ho, the regional capital.
This was after the facility, which was started in March 2018 and was expected to be completed in February 2019, was abandoned for some years.
The resumption of construction works on the facility which is expected to be used as the event ground for the country’s 66th independence day parade in the regional capital Ho, is progressing steadily. The aesthetic beauty of the facility though not fully completed is taking shape with over 65 percent of completed construction works.
According to contractors working on the facility, Wilkado Construction, major works which are ongoing currently involve inner works, some periphery works, road networks within the facility, as well as horticulture aspects of the facility.
The choice and decision to host the event at the multi purpose Youth Resource Center was received especially by people of the region and within the Ho Municipality with mixed reactions. However a visit by GBCNews to the facility showed transformation over the existing facility some Weeks ago.
A co-chairman of the Grounds and Event Committee of the Local Organizing Committee who is also the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Divine Richard Komla Bosson, said in an interview with GBCNEWS that the President’s choice of Volta region is a testimony of the love and developmental commitment the president has for the region.
Mr. Bosson called for the support of all Chiefs and people of the region, especially within the Ho municipality, to own the celebration and be active participants to make it grand. “Everything is on point, this was not like this last week, and before last week it wasn’t like that. So I will say yes there is some little fears among some people but as as co- chairman of Grounds and Event Committee, I can assure the people that we are on point,” he added.
“We also thank the president for his intervention for raising funds to complete this facility before the time. So I can only appeal to the good People of the region that the 6th march has come to us and that the president has done us a lot of good and we are going to give the best of host,” he assured.
GBCNews learnt that all things being equal, rehearsals by security and other contingents for the parade are expected to begin on the 17th of February, 2023.
