The Judicial Service of Ghana has denied reports of alleged sale of bungalows previously occupied by two Superior Court Judges.

There have been media reports that the Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, conspired with a former Chief Justice to sell the official residence of the late Supreme Court judge, Justice Samuel Marful-Sau.

However, in a statement, the Judicial Service said the purported properties which were allocated to it by the Ministry of Works and Housing fell within government’s Re-development Scheme within Onyasia Close at Roman Ridge in Accra.

The Judicial Service said it received a letter from the Ministry of Works and Housing on December 28, 2022, detailing plans to implement the said scheme to increase the housing stock in the enclave within a two-year period from the date of handing over the properties to the Ministry.

According to the statement per the agreement, on completion of the project, four housing units would be allocated to the Judicial Service for use by Superior Court Judges. The Judicial Service said it accepted the offer in view of the dire accommodation deficits.

The statement said that considering the security and safety requirements of judges, the Judicial Service is convinced that the project would be beneficial to the Judicial Service.

In view of this, the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Works and Housing entered into an agreement on February 17, 2023, to proceed with the project in respect of the two properties.

The Judicial Service states that developments on the said land are covered by an agreement between it and the Ministry of Works and Housing.
