A 13 newly reconstituted members of the Volta Regional Peace Council have been inaugurated and sworn into office to steer the affairs of the secretariat for the next 4 years.
They constitute representatives of 11 major stakeholder groups, including the Volta Region House of Chiefs, the Christian Council, and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, among others.
At the swearing-in ceremony in Ho, a member of the National Peace Council Governing Board, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, said the Peace Council will not relent on its mandate to promote peace and unity in the Volta Region and the country as a whole.
The newly reconstituted members of the Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Peace Council include the chairman of the Volta Regional Peace Council, Rev. Seth Kwesi Mawutor, Rev. Monsignor Peter Eduwodzi Huletey, Rev. Roger Elorm Titriku, Rev. Godswill Elorm Courage, and Lt. Col. Edward Appiah.
The rest are Ismael Ewudzie, Masoud Ismael, Alhaji Saeed Dawuda, Osofo Akotey Agbofa Atsyor, Mama Atrato, Edith Amenuvor, Dela Enuameh-Agbolosso and Togbe Gbogbolulu.
A member of the National Peace Council Governing Board, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, who noted that the Volta Regional Peace Council has lived up to expectations since its inception in 2014, charged the newly reconstituted members to continue to use non-violent mechanisms such as dialogue and negotiation in conflict resolution.
“The NPC will continue to advocate using non-violent means to settle our differences. It is possible to have our countrymen and women fully understand and appreciate the values diversity, trust, tolerance, and reconciliation. This is the work that lies ahead of you, members of the newly reconstituted Volta Regional Peace Council,” he said.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, commended the members on their nomination and called on them to assist in the resolution of chieftaincy conflicts in some parts of the region. He pledged the support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to sustain the peace of the Region.
“Almost every town has a rival chief, and this is going on all the time. So, you can imagine the challenges that we are going through, but we know that with your wise counsel and with your advice to us, we will be able to handle some of these issues,” he said.
The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Seth Kwesi Mawutor, on behalf of other members, pledged their commitment to the task ahead and called on government authorities in the region to recognise the mandate of the Council in ensuring peace and unity.
