The Project Manager in charge of Education of a Non-Governmental Organization, Savana Signatures, Raphael McClure Adomey says children will stimulate their language development, and perform better in schools and their communities when they read books.
He said reading is becoming a stint for school children but teachers must guide them to improve the standard of education in the country.
Mr. Adomey said this when he donated reading materials to the Heve E.P. Basic School, Agogoe Basic School, and the Adabraka E.A Basic School in the Ho and Hohoe Municipalities of the Volta Region .
“These books here are not foreign books they are books by Ghanaian authors, reading will stimulate their children’s language development, and skills, it’ll make them perform better at school, and create literacy both at home and in the community,” Mr. Adomey said.
“Teachers please you should have a section with them where you train them on how to read” Mr. Adomey said.
The book donation is a pilot program under Savana Signatures dubbed “My Book Buddy” which is aimed at bringing the traditional library close to the classroom for easy learning and inculcating the habit of reading in children.
The books which are worth several amounts of Ghana Cedis include Textbooks, Storybooks, Notebooks, and other learning paraphernalia.
Mr. Tsahe Emmanuel and Mr. Williams, and headteachers and teachers of Ho Heve E.P Basic School, Lume Agogoe E. P Basic and Adabraka E.A Primary school thanked Savanna Signatures for their kind gesture.
They pledged the reading materials will be in good use for the benefit of the students.
“We are grateful to Savana Signatures and their directorate for the support, we promise to take good care of the books so academic work will be improved”
The Chief Inspector of Schools at the Ho Municipal Education Directorate, Mr. Ben Kofi Agbadzete implored headteachers and teachers to allow students to access the books so that it will impact their lives in a positive way.
“Please make good use of the books when used judiciously it will make a positive impact on the lives of the students,” Mr. Agbadzete said.
Savana Signatures is an NGO based in Ho and Tamale in the Volta and Northern Regions registered and operating in Ghana with a mission to initiate positive change among girls, women, youth, and vulnerable populations of Ghana using innovative solutions to facilitate their reproductive health and rights, quality education and skills development.
