SOS Children’s Village supports Youth with Business Start-up tools

The Family Strengthening of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana in Asiakwa Program Location has supported twenty-five youth in Akyem New-Tafo in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region with business start-up tools and grants to establish their businesses in order to become self-resilient.

The tools worth over 160,000 Ghanaian cedis include industrial sewing and knitting machines for tailors, standing dryers, washing basins, foot spas, make-up kits for hairdressers and makeups artists, grinding and electric welding machines for welders, ovens, cylinders, cake mixers, high pressure tubes for caterers among others.

The Abuakwa North Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Umar Bodinga speaking during the event noted that the gesture of SOS Children’s Villages is in congruence with the government’s You Start Programme aimed at empowering the youth to be entrepreneurs. Mr. Umar Bodinga advised the youth to put the tools to good use to equally benefit others.

The Programmes Director of the Asiakwa Program Location of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, Daniel Baani in an interview with GBC Sunrise FM noted that their target was to support three hundred families, composed of one thousand children in the Abuakwa North Municipality and one hundred and fifty youth. Mr. Baani explained four focus areas they have.

Some beneficiaries in the past gave testimonies, and in a related development, the youth who received the tools to start their businesses expressed appreciation to the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana.

SOS Children’s Villages Ghana is the local branch of an international humanitarian organization that provides abandoned and destitute children with safe, stable homes and loving families. In Ghana, the organization supports local children and young people with day care, education, medical assistance and vocational training.
