President Akufo-Addo has suspended the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bosome Freho District in the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Yaw Danso had been heard in a leaked tape, claiming some percentage from a share of a galamsey concession and encouraging others to go to Chinese at night to claim monies from them for illegal mining.
”The suspension, which takes immediate effect, would allow for investigations to be carried out by the appropriate agencies to verify the authenticity of the alleged audio recording”, according to the notice of suspension.
He was summoned by President Akufo-Addo through the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Decentralization, Daniel Botwe.
President Akufo-Addo disclosed that the issue would be thoroughly investigated, when he met with DCEs in Kumasi as part of measures to find a lasting solution to the illegal mining menace.
The letter asking the DCE to step aside was dated October 14, 2022 and signed by the Local Government Minister, Mr Dan Botwe on the instruction of President Akufo-Addo.
