This policy shift is part of a broader effort to reverse what Trump calls “social engineering” in public and private life. “I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life..As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
Trump’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues has long been a subject of controversy. During his first term, his administration rolled back numerous protections for LGBTQ+ individuals, including banning transgender personnel from serving in the military.
The issue of gender recognition is complex and multifaceted. While some argue that recognizing only two genders is a step backward, others believe it’s essential to maintain traditional values.
Meanwhile, Trump has made history by replacing Biden as the oldest president to be sworn in. He is also just the second president in US history to return to power after being voted out, after Grover Cleveland in 1893.
