One of the world’s biggest tobacco firms, Philip Morris, has been accused of “staggering hypocrisy” over its new advertising campaign that urges smokers to quit.
The move is said to be an important step in the firm’s aim to ultimately stop selling cigarettes.
But a Cancer Research said the firm was simply trying to promote its smoking alternatives, such as heated tobacco.
It said this is a staggering hypocrisy, pointing out the firm still promotes smoking outside the UK.
Cancer Research, UK’s Tobacco Policy Manager George Butterworth said, the best way Philip Morris could help people to stop smoking is to stop making cigarettes.
The charity said smoking is the leading preventable cause of cancer and it encouraged people to switch away completely from smoking, including through the use of electronic cigarettes.
