In the now-deleted clip, Gomez, visibly in tears, lamented, “All my people are getting attacked… I wish I could do something but I can’t”. Tom Homan, Trump’s appointed “border czar,” dismissed Gomez’s sentiments during a Fox News interview, stating, “If they don’t like it, then they should approach Congress to amend the law” He emphasized that the ongoing deportation efforts are aimed at enhancing community safety and are necessary for national security.
Gomez’s emotional reaction was met with mixed responses online. While many fans expressed support, others accused her of performative activism. Republican Senate candidate Sam Parker even suggested she should “be deported”. In response to the backlash, Gomez posted on her Instagram story, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” before deleting that message as well.
The immigration enforcement actions have led to nearly 1,000 arrests in a single day, prompting Gomez’s emotional outpouring. Homan defended the operations, claiming they target public safety threats and are not focused on families or children.
