By Rebecca Ekpe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n What happened?:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A Red Cross report indicated that two weeks after the devastating 6.8-magnitude earthquake, which struck Morocco\u2019s High Atlas Mountains 70 kilometres from Marrakech, humanitarian needs are growing. While aid reached more isolated regions, there were still logistical hurdles due to obstructed roads. Many people had nothing and were in desperate need of clean water, food, and shelter\u2014the very basics. With bodies still buried under the rubble and aftershocks sparking flashbacks, many people experienced psychological distress. And there continued struggles to reach remote areas of the High Atlas Mountains with heavy machinery, and rescuers warned the window for finding survivors was closing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Support for Morocco:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Countries all over the world extended a hand of support to Morocco during this difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Government and People of Ghana also expressed sympathy and condolences to King Mohammed VI, the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco following the tragic earthquake on Friday, September 8, 2023, which claimed many lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Akufo-Addo wrote in a tweet.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOn behalf of the people of Ghana, I extend my deepest condolences to King Mohammed VI and to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco on the tragedy which has been occasioned by Friday\u2019s earthquake and has claimed the lives of thousands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe pray for the families of the victims, and wish the injured speedy recovery.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n On behalf of the people of Ghana, I extend my deepest condolences to King Mohammed VI and to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco on the tragedy which has been occasioned by Friday\u2019s earthquake, and has claimed the lives of thousands.
