Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has denied allegations that his office has been allocated 78 million Ghana cedis for propaganda purposes.

He clarified in an interview on The Key points that, the funds are actually intended for three agencies under his supervision: the Information Services Department (ISD), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), and Ghana News Agency (GNA). He further went on to hint that the mentioned agencies will bitterly lament the amount because it is not sufficient for operations, further citing that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation will need an amount of 36 million Ghana cedis to establish a presence in the six new regions which do not have a GBC presence.

Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that his office is modest, consisting of only one room and a reception area where two of his administrative staff sit.

He stressed that they don’t require excessive funding, contrary to reports. ‘’We don’t need 78 million and I don’t need capital expenditure beyond the furniture I sit on’’, he said.

The Minister also took the opportunity to highlight his humility, revealing that he has declined entitlements such as police guards and domestic staff. He revealed that he even pays his driver of 20 years out of his own pocket, rather than relying on state funding. ‘’I pay my driver myself, he is not paid by the state’’, the Minister mentioned.

Kwakye Ofosu’s statements aim to set the record straight and dispel any misconceptions about his office’s allocation of funds.
