A driver’s mate who defiled a 14 year old girl, has been sentenced to a three year jail term with hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Richard Gyamfi, aged 18, pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the Court presided over by Miss Comfort Tasiame.
Police Chief Inspector Mercy Quaye, prosecuting, told the Court that on October 18 this year, at about 1000 hours, the victim who lives with her grandmother at Atafoa-Tikese near Kumasi, went to the room of one Daniel Appiah, her uncle’s friend, to watch television.
The victim met Appiah and the accused in the room also watching television, a few minutes later, Daniel had a call and went outside to answer.
She said the accused took advantage of Appiah’s absence and had sexual intercourse with the victim on a sofa in the room, after which he immediately left the room before Appiah could returned.
The Prosecution said the victim then returned home and kept the ordeal to herself until her grandmother, Felicia Dapaah, who is the complainant in the case observed some changes in her gait and questioned her.
She said it was at this juncture that the victim disclosed what had happened to her to the grandmother who as a result, reported it to the Suntreso Police in Kumasi.
Prosecution said accused was subsequently arrested and a police medical report form was issued for her to be examined and the report was returned endorsed by Medical officers at the Suntreso Government Hospital, confirming the victim had been defiled.
Chief Inspector Quaye said, in her cautioned statement, the accused admitted the offence and was therefore charged and brought before the Court.
