59th ECOWAS Ordinary Summit comes off in Accra

Ghana is hosting the 59th Ordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The meeting will deliberate on pertinent issues threatening peace and stability in the sub-region and find solutions to them.

The meeting on Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19, is being attended by 15 Heads of State, except Mali, which has been suspended from the regional bloc following the recent political upheavals there.

Speaking to Journalists in Accra, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said other dignitaries expected include the ECOWAS President and Vice President, Commissioners and supporting staff as well as former Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan, who is the ECOWAS Special Envoy, mediating the Malian political crisis.
