The Sankanna Traditional Council has officially outdoored Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Development Queen Mother for the Sankanna traditional area.

This honour is being bestowed upon her as a token of appreciation for her development projects and support to the Sankanna community during her tenure as Minister of Education under the NDC administration.

The ceremony took place on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, during the climax of the annual Kalibi festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Sankanna. 

According to Naa Bernard Mornah, the title; Pognaa Piirima (Mother of the Rocks) is a testament to her dedication to the development of the Sankanna community, which has been a hallmark of her public service career.

“The installation of Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Development Queen Mother is seen as a fitting tribute to her contributions to the growth and development of the Sankanna community.

Her commitment to education, particularly in rural areas, has been widely recognized and appreciated by the people of Sankanna.”

 The ceremony  attracted large crowd of residents and dignitaries from across the region and country, who  gathered to pay homage to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The Kalibi festival, which dates back to the pre-colonial era, is a celebration of the bravery and resilience of the people of Sankanna.

It is an opportunity for the chiefs and people of the traditional area to come together and reflect on their rich cultural heritage and historical achievements.
