The third edition of the African Media Convention has kicked off in the capital of Ghana, Accra with the Ghana Journalists Association playing host to Media Professionals and Stakeholders from all parts of the African Continent.

Ghana gained the hosting right of the only conference that brings together the greatest minds of the media in Africa after a successful bid by the Ghana Journalists Association to compliment the commemoration of the 75th anniversary celebrations. The bid was won after the second edition of the Conference in Lusaka, Zambia in 2023.

The three day conference which kicked off today, May 15, 2024 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, will see Journalists and Media practitioners brainstorm on the need for the protection and freedom of Journalists and their contributions to sustainability in the ever evolving and dynamic media landscape.

 In an opening and welcoming address, President of Ghana Journalists Association who also doubles as the Chairman for the convention, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour welcomed delegates from several African countries as well as international guests. He emphasized on the need to strengthen the media in Africa and the importance of upholding the media’s mandates in informing the citizenry.

He further expressed gratitude to the President and sector Ministers both immediate past and current for their immense support to see that Ghana’s hosting rights is held and delivered accordingly. He also thanked members of the Ghana journalists Association and colleague Media Personnel across the continet for attending what he described as the “biggest media convention yet” in their full numbers and capacity.

This year’s theme “Enhancing freedom, innovation and environmental sustainability in dynamic media landscape” to address the issues of the media and journalists across Africa.
