The biggest nationwide walk against cancer has been launched in Accra.

Under the auspices of Breast Care International, the walk will highlight poverty as the main catalyst surging the disease and the urgent need for the government to make treatment accessible and affordable for patients, especially rural folks.

President of Breast Care International, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said statistics on the disease are scary, with girls as young as 13 losing their lives to the disease. She asked families to support victims of the disease and not abandon them.

A breast cancer survivor, Vivian, shared her experience with the disease, urging those with the disease to seek early help.

Special guest of honour at the launch, Dr. Ambassador Chukwudi Ihenetu Ezeigbo, underscored the importance of women in development. He said victims of breast cancer must be given all the help required to survive.

The walk is scheduled for October 7 as part of activities to mark October as breast cancer awareness month.
