Faith Evangelical Mission (FEM) Hospital, located at Bubuashie in Accra, has set up a Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease Emergency Fund to support the fight against the pandemic.
The Fund, which was inaugurated Friday, April 10, 2020, would thrive on donations from members of the Faith Evangelical Mission Worldwide (FEMW); corporate institutions and benevolent individuals.
The FEWM provided a seed capital of fifty thousand Cedis to the fund at the inaugural ceremony.
The Chief Bishop of the FEWM, Bishop Frederick France, who is also part of the fund management board, presented a cheque for the amount to the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Raphael Kwasi Tufuor.
Present at the inaugural ceremony were the Deputy Chief Bishop of FEWM, Bishop Charles Nartey and the Administrator of the hospital, Rev. Andrew Hanson Thompson.
Chief Bishop France explained that the fund was opened to receive as much money as possible to support government’s fight against COVID-19.
He said proceeds from the fund would be used to put in place systems that would facilitate testing and treatment of COVID-19 patients and procure medical equipment for health workers. Additionally, he said part of the proceeds would also be channeled into community impact projects such as provision of hand washing infrastructure and sensitisation on the pandemic.
He noted that the church’s decision to donate seed capital of fifty thousand cedis to the fund was to demonstrate that the fight against COVID-19 was a collective one that should not be left for the government alone.
“I want to urge all members of the FEWM community including pastors, church members as well as medical suppliers to commit something into this fund to sustain it,” he said.
Collaboration
The clergyman stressed that the fight against COVID-19 required the collective effort of everyone since no one was safe from the negative impact of the pandemic.
“The government has done a lot to tackle this disease and I think no proper Ghanaian should fold their arms and look on. Even by staying home and complying with the health directives, you are also contributing to solving the problem,” he added.

Dr Tufuor expressed appreciation to the leadership of the FEWM for the kind gesture and asked for more support to make the fund achieve its goals.
He noted that although the government had provided personal protection equipment (PPEs) to the hospital, more still needed to be done to fight the pandemic.
In that regard, he called on members of the public to contribute their widow’s mite to the fund.
Dr Tufuor also urged members of the public to stay safe by adhering to the Health protocols since that was the best way to prevent the disease from spreading.
