The North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria is predicting a looming hunger crisis following the flooding of many farms in the region.

Mr. Zakaria said many acres of yam, maize and cassava farms have been submerged in flood waters following torrential rains and the opening of the Bagre dam.

On safety, Mr. Zakaria said while about eight people lost their lives due to the flooding, no life was lost from the opening of the Bagre dam.

According to him, the main losses were the farms which were submerged.

He said while relief items have been provided to some affected individuals, there are a few communities which have been cut off and therefore inaccessible.

He is thus appealing to NGOs and others for support. Mr. Zakaria spoke to Bubu Klinogo.
