Ghana Science Association holds 19° Biennial Workshop on 4th Industrial Revolution

The Ghana Science Association is set to host its 19th biennial workshop on the innovative, affordable and sustainable energy supply in Ghana for the 4th industrial revolution.

The one-day workshop will take place on 10th October 2024 at The Regional Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani in the Bono Region.

The programme is expected to be attended by hundreds highly experienced participants with different backgrounds including oil and gas, energy as well as people with knowledge when it comes to the energy policy-making process and some selected students with the sub-theme “Ghana energy transition pathways for sustainable development”.

The 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) simply refers to the current era of technological advancements, transforming industries, economies, and societies. It is said to be building on the previous three industrial revolutions: 1st Industrial Revolution (1760-1840): Mechanization, steam power, and textile manufacturing,

2nd Industrial Revolution (1870-1914): Mass production, electricity, and the automobile and the 3rd Industrial Revolution (1969-2000): Computing, internet, and automation.

The key speakers for the programme are: Dr. Robert Sogbedji, the Deputy Director in charge of Nuclear and Alternative Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Professor Samuel Gyamfi, Deputy Director at RCEES and the Dean of School for Energy, at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani.

The Guest Speaker will be the Minister responsible for Environment, Science Technology and Innovation in person of Ophelia Mensah Hayford and the Energy Minister, Herbert Krapa will deliver the keynote address.

Other speakers on the topics, Ghana’s infrastructure preparedness for electric vehicles will include: Fredrick K. Appiah, Deputy Director in charge of renewable energy at Energy Commission and Elikplim Asilevi, the General Manager at Safisana Ghana Limited will speak on waste to energy convention in Ghana: the role industry.

The programme will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor of University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako.
