The Inspector General of Police, (IGP) David Asante Apeatu has asked unauthorized persons who illegally use sirens and horns to desist from the practice or face the full rigorous of the law.
He noted that any person found culpable could face a jail term of 30 days. He issued this warning during a press briefing in Accra.
The misuse of horns and sirens have become very rampant in the country as many unauthorized persons indiscriminately drive as if there’s an emergency causing unnecessary fear, panic and even noise pollution.
It is in this regard that The Ghana Police Service and Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority DVLA have organized a press conference to address this menace.
Speaking the press briefing the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu has asked all using sirens illegally to desist from the practice or face a 30 days jail term.
Chief Executive of the DVLA, Kwasi Agyeman Busia says the DVLA will enforce this by ensuring that when vehicles come for licensing or license renewal inspections will be carried out to ensure that those vehicles do not have sirens illegally.
The Ghana Police Service is reminding citizens that only persons legally authorized to use sirens can use them. However citizens who are faced with life threatening conditions can use sirens or horns.
