Interior Minister to answers questions in Parliament over alleged police brutalities in Asawase

Parliament has summoned the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery to appear before the house next Tuesday, August 1, 2023 over the alleged police brutalities meted out to a 32-year-old man, Yussif Salawudeen, leading to his death in Kumasi. 

This follows the making of a statement on the incident by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka. He said the Minister would have to brief the house on why the irate youth attacked the Asawase Police Station on  July 23, 2023.

The First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu in his ruling, directed that the Minister be made to appear in a week’s time.

Mr. Muntaka described the seeming bias the police have for zongo youth as disheartening. 

The enraged youth are said to have stormed the Asawase police station and vandalized it in response to the unfortunate tragedy. 

Mr. Muntaka condemned their actions, asking them to always allow the law to take its course.
