Investigations into Police probe should be confidential; Police Council must take charge- Dr. Eric Oduro Osae

The Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has urged that the Inspector General of the Police (IGP) appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee probing the leak tape be conducted in camera, as it is vital to safeguarding sensitive information relating to Ghana’s National Security and Governance.

In an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show on September 12, 2023, Dr. Oduro Osae stated that the Police play a vital role in protecting life and property; therefore, their operational procedures should not be disclosed.

“The whole proceedings should have been done in camera because the Police Service is an important security apparatus and in terms of internal security, they protect life property and they have all kinds of mechanisms operating procedures that should not be known by third parties,” he said.

He further stressed that, the Police Council has to step in and manage the investigation internally, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of both the community, the public and the Police Service. 

“It is never too late the Police Council can step in to take over the matter and deal with the matter internally after that report to Parliament, will help us to continue with their income rate discussion to consider the integrity of the Republic the integrity of the Police Service and we should have a unified Police Service that can stand with the force of the nation”, he added.

Dr. Eric Oduro Osae recommended an in-camera approach should be used when dealing with matters related to National Security and Governance.
