GIMPA Law lecturer, Dr. Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, has stated on the GTV Breakfast Show that he would have sued the School if he were to be the parent of the deceased Form One Student who was stabbed in his dormitory.
Dr. Gyinde made this statement in relation to the student stabbing case in the Ashanti Region, where 5 students of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School were picked up in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old first-year student.
Larhan Sam’un, the deceased, was stabbed with a knife by his colleague on Friday, November 5, 2021, after he (the deceased) attempted to resolve a scuffle between his mates.
In Dr. Gyinde’s view, the School has failed in the proper caretaking of the Student and it must be sued in that accord,
“I will sue the School for negligence,” he noted.
Dr. Gyinde added that one owed it a duty of care to anyone who entered his /her Institution, as a Student.
”I will sue the school for Civil Action,” he added.
A Civil Action is an action that is brought to enforce, redress or protect a private or civil right. It is non-criminal litigation.
Dr. Gyinde proposed that a better orientation be given to all Senior High Schools (SHS) to remember that bullying is disallowed’.
”On the first day of orientation, students must know their boundaries,” according to Dr. Gyinde.
