The Ghana Chamber of Mines has introduced a groundbreaking initiative, the Ghana Mining Competency Framework, designed to standardise the approach to defining and measuring the knowledge and skills required for various roles within the mining sector.

This framework will empower mining companies to ensure their workforce is adequately trained and qualified to perform their jobs effectively and safely.

The launch took place during the 6th Human Resource Biennial Conference in Accra. The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Mr. Sulemanu Koney, expressed his appreciation for the HR Committee and Ad-hoc Committee members’ dedication in developing the framework.

“The framework will serve as a cornerstone for designing training programs, assessments, and career development pathways, all aimed at enhancing the overall competency of employees in the mining industry,” Mr. Koney stated. “I urge Human Resources professionals in the industry to continue implementing initiatives and programs that meet the evolving needs of the mining sector.”

The conference brought together industry leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the mining sector. Presentations and panel discussions covered topics such as the future of work, diversity and inclusion, and the role of technology in driving sustainability.

Mr. Koney emphasised the pivotal role of HR professionals in driving sustainability initiatives within the mining sector. “As the industry continues to evolve, it is evident that HR professionals will continue to play a crucial role in shaping its future,” he said.
